Backpack Collection Drive for Our Island Keiki in Need – Now until Sunday, July 16, 2023 (time extended)
The Hawaii County Police Department (HPD) has once again teamed up with Hope Services Hawaii to do an island wide backpack drive four our keiki in need. 
Backpacks are the most requested nonfood items requested by charities in Hawaii. New and unfilled backpacks are being collected.
At Puna Hongwanji we will collect backpacks from now until Sunday, July 9, 2023 time has been extended to Sunday, July 16, 2023. You may bring your backpack donation to the Bon Dance. Drop them off at the game area in the social hall.
Last year Puna Hongwanji delivered 54 backpacks to the Pahoa Police Station. The backpacks collected are being distributed to children at women’s shelters, homeless shelters, and transitional housing facilities around the island.
