Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii – Hawaii District Ministers Association presents the 2023 Nembutsu Seminar on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Please join us on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin Sr. YBA Hall. The Hawaii District Ministers Association will be presenting the 2023 Nembutsu Seminar. The featured guest speaker is Dr. Rev. Jeff Wilson. Dr. Rev. Jeff Wilson is a professor of Religious Studies and East Asian Studies at Renison University College and the University of Waterloo, in Ontario, Canada. His lecture is “Living Nembutsu: Jodo Shinshu and Social Engagement”. You can attend the seminar in person or online via Zoom.
How and why do Buddhists get engaged with social issues in their communities and the wider society? What resources are found in the Jodo Shinshu Buddhist tradition for tackling the challenges of our times? What are some inspiring examples of Buddhists making a positive impact on the world in Hawai’i and beyond? Come explore these questions and consider Buddhist answers around climate change, racism, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and other important matters.
