Who we are
We are the temple of Puna, providing religious, spiritual, and Buddhist guidance for the betterment of our community. We are committed to supporting our local people and local businesses.
A renowned Kumu Hula expressed this sentiment during an environmental forum: “I don’t care about the environment. What I care about is people. I care for people with love, kindness, wisdom, and protection. Then, naturally, people begin to care about their surroundings, including nature, because they have experienced being loved and a sense of belonging. Therefore, what I care about is people, because they will care for nature.”
This philosophy aligns with our mission at Puna Hongwanji. While maintaining our temple is important, we also aim to care for and support our people, fostering a sense of belonging. We have come to understand that our community cares for us as well.
Have you noticed the farmer’s market tent and the fish tent (Ahi) set up in the gravel parking area near Longs? It’s great to see our local vendors showcasing their products.
We live together in harmony.
