Puna Hongwanji Bon Dance for ONE NIGHT ONLY – Saturday, July 1, 2023
HATSUBON MEMORIAL SERVICE – 4:00 P.M.
A Hatsubon (first memorial service for the departed loved ones who have passed away since the last obon season) Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Puna Hongwanji. Family and friends are invited to attend this service to remember our loved ones that have passed.
LANTERN MAKING – 4:00 P.M. – 5:15 P.M.
During our Children’s Day event in April there was a lantern making table. Those that did not get to make a lantern you have an opportunity to make one in the Puna Hongwanji social hall between 4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. You will decorate your own lantern and will be able to participate in the lantern parade.
LANTERN PARADE – MEET AT BASE OF TEMPLE 5:30 P.M. – 5:45 P.M.
After the memorial service, join us in a lantern parade. If you made a lantern at the Children’ Day event, you are invited to bring your lantern with you. For the family leaving the temple, we will have some lanterns available for your use to participate in the lantern parade. Rev. Tomioka will lead the group along with the families. Meet at the base of temple steps around 5:30/5:45 p.m.
BON DANCE ~ CONCESSION ~ KIDS GAMES ~ YUKATA DRESSING 6:00 P.M. – 10:00 P.M.
The Puna Hongwanji Bon Dance for 2023 will be held for ONE NIGHT ONLY. Our Bon Dance will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. This is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
PUNA TAIKO PERFORMANCE – 8:00 P.M.
During the half time the Puna Taiko will treat you to a taiko performance.
YUKATA DRESSING
We will have yukata’s available for children and adults to dress up in and . You will be dressed by our helpers and then will be able to take photos with the different backdrops with the yukata on. The photo backdrops will be on the stage area of the social hall. You will be given time to take your photos and then return the yukata’s for the next group. There will be a fee charged.
