Children’s Day at Puna Hongwanji – Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Children's Day 2024Join us on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Temple at 16-492 Old Volcano Road, Keaau, HI 96749.  We will have activities, games, food, crafts, and prizes at the event.

  • Hawaii County Police Department will offer free keiki ID’s
  • Hawaii County Fire Department will bring a fire engine, ambulance, and brush truck (available 10 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. – if there is an emergency they will need to leave to attend to the emergency).
  • Malama Haloa Hui Ka’i will be in the breezeway for people to learn to pound poi with the Konanui Ohana
  • Ben Franklin Crafts will have some crafting available
  • Hilo High Japan Club will beMalama Haloa Hui Kui Kalo assisting to make koinobori (carp) out of toilet paper rolls and tissue paper.  Plus they will have some guessing games to win some snacks
  • United Jr. YBA (Hilo Betsuin and Kona Hongwanji) will assist with games
  • Keonepoko Elementary Choir – come learn a children’s song
  • Puna Taiko – come learn the art of Taiko
  • Golf Chipping – meet Leo Saito tow times Drive, Chip, and Putt participant at Augusta, Georgia.  In 2022 he placed 3rd place and in 2023 he placed 1st place.
  • Buy games cards to play games and win tickets.  Tickets can be redeemed for prizes.

Buy game cards to play the different games available.  Win tickets.  Redeem tickets for prizes in our prize section.

Be sure to pick up a passport for the children.  Visit the different activities and get a stamp.  At the end turn in the completed passport for a small prize.  All entries will be put into a drawing for a family portrait by Reed Takaaze valued at $150.00.  Reed Takaaze Photography Gift Certificate

Open to the public.  All are welcome.  Family friendly event.  Free to enter.
