Sake Tasting and Food Pairing – Saturday, September 14, 2024 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Puna Hongwanji will host a sake tasting and food pairing event on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in our social hall. Cost per ticket is $75. Tickets can be purchased by email Jenn Kurohara at jklkurohara@gmail.com.
Ryan Kadota of Kadota Liquor will select a variety of sake to be paired with food that Puna Hongwanji will prepare. Come learn about the different sakes. Each sake and food pairing will be delivered to each table by our volunteers. On the menu will be yakisoba, fried chicken wings, tempura, happy rice nigiri, cheese, thin crust pizza, tofu, yuzu sorbet, and ending the night with miso soup.
Entertainment will be provided by the talented ukulele player Ryan Coad.
No sake sales will take place at Puna Hongwanji, but we will have order forms so you can order the sake(s) you like and pick it up from Kadota Liquor in Hilo.
This is our first event and there were two of our members who have passed that enjoyed drinking sake. This year’s event we do in honor of both Earl Mukai and Roy Toma.
Funds raised from this event will be donated to our Puna Hongwanji Building Fund. We have a lot of building maintenance that is needed to our temple. We hope to get them done by our 125th anniversary in 2027. Our income source is donations from temple members and friends and our fundraising events.
