Sunday, September 22, 2024 – 9:00 a.m. – Peace Day Program

Please join us on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. in the Puna Hongwanji Social Hall.  We will have a Peace Day Program dedicated to Peace.  In 1981, the United Nations passed a resolution of establishing Peace Day.  Peace Day is observed on September 21.  The Hawaii Federation of Junior Young Buddhist Association (Jr. YBA) members presented a resolution to the Hawaii Legislature in 2007.  The bill was enacted and Hawaii was the first state to establish Peace Day in Hawaii.  “September 21st of each year shall be known and recognized as ‘Peace Day’ to promote peace programs, improve international relations, and increase educational awareness of peace”.

Our program will include:

  • Mayor Mitch Roth
  • Puna Hongwanji choir
  • Message by Art Taniguchi
  • High High School Japan Club story of Sadako Sasaki
  • Rotary Club message by Tim Hansen and Charlene Iboshi
  • Peace building game
  • Puna Taiko
  • Hawaii Aloha
  • Light refreshments
