Hoonko is the most important service in the Hongwanji tradition to commemorate the founder Shinran Shonin and receive the teachings of Amida Buddha
shared by him.

Talk story with Rev. Ai Hironaka, Minister of Kahului Hongwanji and Lahaina Hongwanji. Talk story about Nembutsu with Rev. Hironaka. Followed by a potluck welcome dinner for Rev. Hironaka.
Sunday, January 12, 2025 at 9:00 a.m.
Join us for our Founder’s Memorial Service (Hoonko Service) starting at 9:00 a.m. Rev. Hironaka will be our guest speaker. After the service we will have our New Year’s Party (Shinnen Enkai) in the social hall. During this time we will also honor our Keirosha’s (those that will be 80 years old in 2025).
Tickets will be available for sale for the luncheon. There will be prizes as well.
Shinnen Enkai (New Year’s) Party Ticket Prices:
Adults: $10 in advance/$15 at the door
Students (Ages 8-18): $5 advance/$10 at the door
Keirosha and Children 7 and under: Free
The Shinnen Enkai Party will start after the 9:00 a.m. Sunday Hoonko (Founder’s Memorial) Service.
