Puna Hongwanji Children’s Day
COME JOIN IN ON THE FUN. We will be hosting another Children’s Day event at Puna Hongwanji on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please bring your children as there will be games and activities for the children and the children young at heart. All are welcome. Bring your family and friends along with you for some fun.
As of March 14 we have the following that will be available at the event.
- Purchase game cards to play games and win some prizes
- CU Hawaii FCU
- Hawaii Police Department – Free Keiki ID
- Hawaii Fire Department – will have 3 trucks
- Hilo High School Japan Club – make a koinobori
- Pahala Taiko – Maki sushi (see below for pre-orders due by April 5th)
- Puna Taiko – Andagi
- Malama Haloa Hui Kui Kalo – learn to pound your own paiai
- Outdoor activities with Jade Toma
- Concession – Puna Hongwanji BWA and Puna Hongwanji Judo
- E.M. Awareness – Genki Balls
Pahala Hongwanji Taiko Maki Sushi Fundraiser
The Pahala Hongwanji Taiko will be participating in our Puna Hongwanji Children’s Day event. For their fundraiser they will be taking pre-orders for their maki sushi. Proceeds from this will be donated to support Pahala Hongwanji Mission and Pahala Hongwanji Taiko.

Sushi will be $6 a roll and there will be two types of sushi available.
- REGULAR ROLL: Rice, sugar, vinegar, salt, shoyu, egg, tuna, kanpyo, and nori
- VEGETARIAN ROLL: Rice, sugar, vinegar, salt, shoyu, egg, carrot, kanpyo, and nori
You can mail your payment or make your payment on the day of the pick up. If you would like to mail in your payment please make your check payable to “Pahala Hongwanji Mission Special Account” and in the memo section indicate “Presale Maki Sushi – Puna“.
