Children’s Day 2026 – April 25, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Everyone is welcome to attend

All are welcome to attend our Children’s Day scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on the temple grounds at Puna Hongwanji Mission.  The day will be filled with fun activities for the children and children at heart.

Purchase your game cards to play a variety of games and have a chance to win some prizes.

Get a passport and visit the variety of activities.  Turn in your completed passport and be entered to win a prize.

Mālama Hāloa Hui Ku’i Kalo

Be sure to check under the breezeway on the Long’s Drugs side of the social hall for Mālama Hāloa Hui Ku’i Kalo.  Participants will learn to make their own pa’i a’i which they can take home with them to eat.

 

 

 

 

 

KEIKI FUN RUN SIGN-UP

This year we will have a keiki fun run to kick off our Children’s Day event.  The event will start at 10:00 a.m.  This is open to all ages and all speeds.  You can walk or run the event.  The course is about 400 meters.  Please register at https://runsignup.com/Race/HI/Keaau/PunaHongwanjiKeikiFunRun

On the day of the event you will meet under the Bodhi Tree which is located near the food tents.

The course path will be from the Bodhi tree and you will end at the Bodhi tree.

MAGIC SHOW AT 11:30 A.M. – 12:15 P.M.

Karl Magic It’s Automatic – on the stage in the social hall there will be a magic show from 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

PAHALA HONGWANJI TAIKO – PRESALE MAKI SUSHI

Pahala Hongwanji Taiko is accepting pre-orders for their maki sushi fundraiser.  Proceeds will be donated to support Pahala Hongwanji Mission and Pahal Hongwanji Taiko. 

Each maki sushi roll is $6.  There are two types that will be available.

  • Regular Sushi Roll:  rice, sugar, vinegar, salt, shoyu, egg, tuna, kanpyo, and nori
  • Vegetarian Sushi Roll:  rice, sugar, vinegar, salt, shoyu, egg, carrot, kanpyo, and nori

Pick up will be at Puna Hongwanji on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at our Children’s Day event.

Hawaii Police Department

 

 

The Hawaii Police Department will be on site to offer free Keiki ID’s.  If you got an ID in the past, get an updated one so that you have the most updated information regarding your children.

 

 

 

Hawaii Fire Department

 

So long there is no emergency that the Hawaii Fire Department needs to be at there will be a fire truck, brush truck and ambulance at Puna Hongwanji.  You can talk stories with the fire fighters.  You are also allowed to walk into the ambulance and climb into the fire truck and brush truck.

 

 

 

Puna Hongwanji Judo Club Concession

Check out the concession being run by the Puna Hongwanji Judo Club.  They will have a variety of yummy goodies tailored for our keiki.  They will also have some goodies for those with a sweet tooth.

 

 

 

 

 

Puna Hongwanji Sr. YBA – Lilipops

The Puna Hongwanji Sr. YBA will be selling refreshing Lilipops.  Come check out the different flavors that are available.  The flavors are pure and unique.  The are made locally using local fruits, teas, coffee with lava rock filtered water and pure organic cane sugar.

 

Puna Taiko – Andagi

Puna Taiko will be serving up their andagi.  Be sure to get your bag of andagi.  4 in a bag for $5.

 

 

 

 

Passport

Be sure to pick up a passport (while supplies last).  Visit the different activities and get a stamp.  After visiting with 9 to 12 vendors you will be eligible to enter your child’s name into a drawing.  We received a very generous donation from Reed Takaaze Photography for a family sitting.  Winners will be drawn randomly and will be notified of your prize winning.

There will be games as well.  Purchase a game card for $5.  This year we are not doing prizes by tickets.  Instead after playing each game and scoring a certain number of points you will be eligible to select the prizes at each of the game stations.  (Prizes will be will supplies last).
