Peace Gathering and Ring Your Bell for Peace Day – Sunday, Sept 20 & 21, 2026
We will observe two days of peace gatherings. Please join us.
SUNDAY, September 20, 2026 9:00 am – Peace 
Day Gathering in the Puna Hongwanji Social Hall. Our guest speaker will be Tim Hansen. His message will be “Inner and Outer Journey of Peace”. The program will be available in person and on Zoom. Please note we highly recommend you come in person as our audio quality will not be the same like in temple service. We will have singing by our Puna Hongwanji Choir. They will debut a song written by one of the members. We will have the Pacific and Asian Affair Councils (PAAC) to do a presentation that is part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related projects that the students from Hilo High School are working on. We will also have a display of Sadako and the Paper Cranes and a peace building game. After the program light refreshments will be provided.
MONDAY, September 21, 2026 8:30 am – the temple doors will open at 8:00 am. The Peace Day 
program will be live-streamed from Oʻahu featuring peace messages, music by Jake Shimabukuro, and more. Bring your own bell as well. We will take turns ringing the Kansho bell continuously for 5 minutes. After the program we will meet downstairs in the dining room to watch the Disney movie “Elemental”. This movie shares how difference can co-exist in harmony. The movie will be in person only.
