Hanamatsuri (Buddha Day) Service – Sunday, April 9, 2023 9 am

Join us on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at 9:00 am for our Hanamatsuri (Buddha Day) Service. Service will be available in person and online via Zoom. Rev. Satoshi Kaʻimipono Tomioka will share the Dharma Message “The reason I was born”.

The tree and flowers in this post is the Asoka tree. The Asoka flower is known as the flower without sorrow. Stories say that Queen Maya dreamt of a white elephant with six tusk entered her right side. That dream indicated that her son would become a prince. He was born in Lumbini Gardens under the Asoka tree. Flowers and sweet rain came down to bathe the baby. Therefore, this is why we decorate the hanamido (flower altar) and pour sweet tea over the baby Buddha.
